PhD opportunities

We are always interested in hearing at any time from candidates interested in joining the group to study for a PhD. Please email Michael.Weir@nottingham.ac.uk with your project interests.

Specific PhD opportunities will appear here and some general thoughts on applying are below.

UK students can apply to study for a PhD – even where one is not specifically advertised – and may be eligible for full support (fees paid and a stipend to cover living costs) via the University/Research Councils. The typical entry requirements set by the School and University are a 2:1 or higher in a 4 year undergraduate course, e.g. MSci, MPhys, or a BSc + MSc, or other equivalent experience. Please get in touch if you’re not sure.

International (non-UK) students are welcome and should be able to provide their own financial support or a scholarship to cover their international fees plus their living expenses. If you are applying for an international scholarship, and you’re interested in working in our area, please get in touch. If we have a Ph.D. opportunity that comes with its own University scholarship we will advertise it specifically but these are unfortunately rare.
